In addition to the everlasting demand for superior performance of newly developed metalworking fluids also today’s core requirements continue to become increasingly challenging. Major drivers of new formulations are cost reduction at fluid manufacturers as well as the machine shops and the aim for overall sustainability. Particularly fluid lifetime is an essential factor for these aims.
Fluid longevity and cleanliness is influenced by the water hardness, increasing concentration of dissolved metals salts from tool abrasion, workpiece alloys especially when dealing with light metals as well as the process water itself and microbial resistance. Also low foaming behavior is more critical than ever, due to the higher speeds and pressures applied in combination with further decreasing sump sizes. In addition environmental, health and safety (EH&S) criteria demand for milder labeling while a limited number of registered and approved raw materials are available.
Kao Chemicals provides with the unique Kao Metalworking Toolbox specially designed emulsifier solutions to overcome these challenges when formulating our day’s metalworking fluids. This presentation focus on how outstanding performance is reachable when formulating with low foaming nonionic main emulsifiers (KAO FINDET MB / AKYPO® ROX) and multifunction AKYPO® co-emulsifiers and solubilizers.
